Elizabeth Macdonald, Phd, is associate professor of urban design at the University of California at Berkeley. Her research focuses on street design and the history of urban form. A registered architect and a member of Berkeley's Landscape Architecture Department, she is the the coeditor, with Michael Larice, of The Urban Design Reader, and, with Jacobs and Rofe, a coauthor of The Boulevard Book: History, Evolution, Design of Multiway Boulevards. Macdonald's most recent book, Pleasure Drives and Promenades: A History of Olmsted and Vaux's Brooklyn Parkways, will be released in 2012. She has consulted widely, in San Francisco, Vancouver, Abu Dhabi, and other cities. A partner in the firm Cityworks, Macdonald's recent professional design projects include Octavia Boulevard in San Francisco and redesigns for Pacific Boulevard in Vancouver, British Columbia, International Boulevard in Oakland’s Fruitvale District, and C. G. Road in Ahmedabad, India.
