Matias Sendoa Echanove was born in Geneva, Switzerland, and studied economics at the LSE in London and urban planning at Columbia University in New York. He is now finishing a PhD thesis on information technology and participatory urban planning at the University of Tokyo. His interests include street-markets, the informal economy, unplanned settlements, participatory politics, and information. He coordinated the Urban Typhoon workshops in Shimokatzawa (Tokyo) and Dharavi (Mumbai). He is based in Mumbai, a co-founder of URBZ.net and Urbanology.org, and a PUKAR associate.
