Robert Cowan

Robert Cowan is a director of the London-based consultant and training provider Urban Design Skills. He is the author of The Dictionary of Urbanism and editor of Context, the journal of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. His publications include The Connected City, The Cities Design Forgot, Urban Design Guidance, London After Dark, and Re:urbanism. He has written design policy and guidance for England and Wales, and for the Scottish Government. He devised the community audit method Placecheck and the urban design skills appraisal method Capacitycheck. He is an illustrator and his weekly cartoon appeared in Planning for 20 years.
